Georgia Holt, singer and mother of Cher, dies aged 96

Singer, actor and mother of Cher, Georgia Holt, has died at the age of 96: “Mom is gone,” announced Cher via Twitter.

American musician and actor, Georgia Holt, has died at the age of 96, as announced by her daughter Cher via Twitter on Sunday (December 11): “Mom is gone,” wrote the Believe hitmaker. Holt leaves behind her grandsons Elijah Blue Allman and Chaz Bono, her partner Craig Spencer, and her daughters Cher and Georganne LaPiere.

While details on the artist and mother’s exact cause of death remain scarce, she was admitted to the hospital with pneumonia in September. During that time, Cher was looking after her and reporting on her condition via social media, stating at one point that her mother was “getting better.”

Whilst forging their respective careers, Cher and her mother reportedly remained “inseparable.” Nearly a decade ago, the pair appeared on an episode of Ellen and performed a duet of Holt’s 2013 track, I’m Just Your Yesterday.
