Fyre Festival’s Andy King announced as keynote speaker for BIGSOUND 2019

After becoming a pop culture sensation thanks to a certain scene in the Netflix documentary FYRE: The Greatest Party That Never Happened, everyone’s favourite team player Andy King has now been confirmed as a keynote speaker at BIGSOUND next month.

The conference, which will be held in Brisbane’s Fortitude Valley from the 3rd to the 6th of September, will see King give insight into the controversial festival, as well as event producing in general, discussing “why you should never run out of water” and more.

BIGSOUND 2019 has just released its full schedule, featuring over 70 new keynote speakers, including Fyre Festival event producer Andy King.

In case you missed it, in the viral Fyre documentary scene, King tells the story of how Billy McFarland asked him, “our wonderful gay leader”, to take one for the team and give a customs official a blowjob in exchange for truckloads of water that had been seized at the border.

King says he doesn’t regret the decision to allow the scene to stay in the final cut. “Everyone around me told me to pull that scene because we would lose our clients. I was told never to mention Fyre Festival to anybody,” he said. “After two weeks of listening to them… I woke up and thought ‘fuck all of you’. I worked my ass off to try to save that festival.”

Now, King, alongside over 70 additional speakers, has just been added to an already talent-packed conference lineup that includes Best Coast’s Bethany CosentinoRevenge Of The She-Punks author Vivien Goldman, Nettwerk Music Group CEO and co-founder Terry McBride and more.

The line-up now features the likes of Spotify Australia/NZ’s Alicia Sbrugnera, Unified Music Group’s Ashleigh Hills, Secret Service’s Stacey Piggott, Sony’s Petrina Convey, and triple j’s Declan Byrne, among others.

The huge conference lineup will be accompanied by a massive artists program, with more than 150 acts, including Mojo Juju, These New South Whales, The Buoys, Japanese Wallpaper, Love Deluxe, DRMNGNOW and more.

On top of that, BIGSOUND has also unveiled its full timetable, with a rundown of panels, workshops, presentations, showcases, parties and more available via its website and app. You can check out the full list of speakers below, and catch the full schedule here.
