Jamie Hewlett, one of the driving forces and co-founders behind Gorillaz, has confirmed that he and Damon Albarn are producing the group’s new album.
At this stage, they have their sights set on a 2016 release, which will be their first release since their 2011 LP The Fall. Hewlett told DIY sessions “The record’s due next year. I’m working on it at the moment, and it’s going very well. I’m very excited, I don’t want to say too much about it, but I’m at that phase of experimentation.”
Hewlett explained that he basically shuts himself away while recording and producing, saying “What I try not to do when I’m working in this creative period, the cooking of the mess, is go to other peoples’ exhibitions and look at other peoples’ work. I close my eyes, and don’t want to know what anyone else is doing.”
Taking to Instagram to torment fans, Hewlett has spent the past few days uploading new artwork. You can check out his Instagram account here.
