Iceland’s new Pres. Guðni has been forced to justify his downright hateful stance towards pineapple on pizza

President of Iceland Guðni Jóhannesson has recently come under fire on social media for his outspoken and downright hateful stance on the inclusion of pineapple on pizza.

What is undoubtedly one of the great questions of our time has morphed into a political windstorm of epic proportions thanks to recent comments from Jóhannesson declaring that he was “fundamentally opposed” to the popular topping. He even went so far as to imply he would ban it entirely.

Pineapple or no pineapple? Icelandic president Guðni Jóhannesson has turned his harsh stance on pizza toppings into a surprisingly powerful political message.

In case you were about to enjoy a little schadenfreude at another country’s political system being as much of a joke as ours (or America’s), then enjoy away, because you’re about to be disappointed.

What started as a debacle about pizza toppings became a joke, and then that joke became a surprisingly powerful statement from the Pres:

There’s a few old mates in politics that could surely take a leaf out of Jóhannesson’s book here. Way to turn pineapple pizzas into a tip-top comment on the dangers of dictatorship and absolute power, Guðni. You boss.

Apart from the pizza ordeal, Jóhannesson has enjoyed almost unending positivity from his nation since being elected, his approval ratings soaring as high as 97% at one point.
