A rock legend honours a football hero taken too soon.
The football world is in shock after Liverpool and Portugal forward Diogo Jota and his brother, Andre Silva, were killed in a car crash in northern Spain.
The 28-year-old, who had just celebrated a Premier League title with Liverpool and a UEFA Nations League win with Portugal, was travelling back to England for pre-season when the accident occurred.
Legendary Led Zeppelin singer Robert Plant, a lifelong Wolverhampton Wanderers supporter and club vice president, paid tribute to Jota, who once starred for Wolves.
“What a tragic loss. The dimming of a bright, shining light. Thank you for your magic, Diogo,” Plant wrote on X.

Jota, who joined Liverpool in 2020, was a beloved figure, on and off the pitch.
Tributes poured in from teammates, including Cristiano Ronaldo (“It doesn’t make sense… Rest in peace”) and former manager Jürgen Klopp, who called him “a fantastic player, a great friend, and a loving father.”
Just 28 days after his wedding and with three young children left behind, Jota’s death is a heartbreaking reminder of life’s fragility.
