A group of Taylor Swift fans are taking legal action against Ticketmaster for “fraud, price-fixing, and antitrust violations.”
In response to the Eras Tour pre-sale fiasco which kickstarted on November 15, a number of Taylor Swift fans have joined forces in the filing of a lawsuit against Ticketmaster. As reported by Deadline, the lawsuit accuses the ticketing giant of “fraud, price-fixing, and antitrust violations,” as well as “intentional deception.”
The collective of Swifties also claim that even if there was no deliberate collusion performed by Ticketmaster, the organisation was in fact not prepared for the level of ticketing demand. Following November’s pre-sale debacle, Taylor Swift also made this point herself, in a lengthy Instagram statement.
“There are a multitude of reasons why people had such a hard time trying to get tickets and I’m trying to figure out how this situation can be improved moving forward,” wrote Swift. “I’m not going to make excuses for anyone because we asked them, multiple times, if they could handle this kind of demand and we were assured they could.”
She added, “It’s truly amazing that 2.4 million people got tickets, but it really pisses me off that a lot of them feel like they went through several bear attacks to get them. And to those who didn’t get tickets, all I can say is that my hope is to provide more opportunities for us to all get together and sing these songs.”
Also mentioned in the lawsuit is Los Angeles County, where Live Nation (Ticketmaster’s parent company) is located. It requests for the company to receive a civil fine of $2500 USD per violation.
This could accumulate to a substantial total, considering the fact that the forthcoming Eras Tour is an international stadium tour. Read more details about the lawsuit here.
