TikTok has partnered with iHeartRadio to launch their very own station: TikTok Trending on iHeartRadio, which launches live in Australia today.
TikTok Trending on iHeartRadio will be hosted by Australian TikTok creators, broadcasting 24/7 on air for the next three months.
The show will feature deep dives into the apps popular music, provide recommendations on what to listen to next and give you the low down on TikTok trends, effects, challenges and news. They also promise exclusive interviews with local and international TikTok artists and music stars.
G-Flip, one of the radio station’s hosts.
Since the app blew up in early 2020 TikTok has become somewhat of a ‘music tipsheet’ for radio, with programmers staying on top of trending music by following what’s popular on the platform.
Last year, nearly 90 tracks that trended on TikTok climbed to the Top 100 charts in the US, with 15 of those reaching #1 on the Billboard chart. Think Drivers License, Old Town Road and Say So, to name a few.
TikTok is also renowned for helping resurface old hits for another moment in the spotlight. Remember the TikTok of a guy (Nathan Apodaca) lip-syncing Fleetwood Mac’s Dreams while skateboarding and drinking Ocean Spray cranberry juice?
That viral video flung Dreams back onto the charts and helped it trend on Spotify and Apple Music for months. What’s more, Ocean Spray sales boomed, and Apodaca received more than $15,000 (USD) in donations from fans.
The station will be hosted by four Australian TikTok creators, they are G Flip — who performed on the TikTok float at Mardi Gras — Isaiah Firebrace who GQ dubbed ‘the face of First Nations pop’ — social media comedian Tannar and singer-songwriter avneesha.
The first guest to star on the station will be Rita Ora, who will be on the show to share insider commentary on the platforms pop hits.
TikTok says this radio station is “a testament to TikTok’s growing credentials in the music industry and the influence the platform has in propelling talent and tracks from the platform and into the mainstream music scene”
From today, TikTok Trending iHeartRadio will be available for Australians to stream via www.iheart.com, on smart devices like Apple TV or on DAB+ Digital radion in Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, Adelaide and Perth.
