The Red Hot Chili Peppers are at it again, releasing another gold nugget of visually trippy proportions called Sick Love.
Sick Love is the newest music video from the band’s latest album, with Dark Necessities and Go Robot preceding it and causing warranted hype. Directed by singer Beth Jean Houghton, Sick Love’s animated video follows an Aussie girl’s hellish journey in a version of LA that can only be described as utterly dystopian.
While the funky four no longer churn out tunes at the rate they used to, their newly released album The Getaway proves they’ve still got it.
A naked Anthony Kiedis makes an appearance with the main character as they travel through nightmare after nightmare. The narrative told in the lyrics is complimented nicely by the absurd visuals, where we see a bathtub full of slime and vomiting news anchors. We wont ruin the epic ending for you, you’ll just have to see for yourself.
The band’s love-hate relationship with the City of Angels has been consistently explored in their music, where they shine a light on the seemingly addictive shallow nature of Hollywood.
So grab your popcorn because you’re in for a treat as “Sick love comes to wash us away”
