Fresh off her new single Adore and ahead of her album Gold, Tusks sounds off on her favourite Australian songwriters and producers.
Tusks has shared Adore, the latest taste of her just-announced upcoming album Gold.
Carried by propulsive percussion and shimmering electronic flairs, the single sees the UK songwriter and producer ruminate on the dissipation of a once-fervent romance.
Lush in its multi-layered production and rich in its storytelling, Adore feels at once resplendent and sombre — a testament to a musician who pays meticulous attention to details.
“Adore is about falling out of love with someone at the start of a relationship when you’re asking yourself if it’s a good idea,” Tusks explained in a press statement.
“If you should fall for that person or whether you should keep yourself guarded.” The single joins Artificial Flame as the first tracks lifted from Tusks’ forthcoming album, Gold.
Serving as the musician’s follow-up to 2019’s Avalanche and third album overall, Gold is a collaboration with producer Tom Andrews.
The ten-track project is said to feature an array of heavenly harmonies, synth-heavy production flairs, and electronic pop soundscapes that range from ambient to blissful to thought provoking.
Speaking of the album — a meditation on the breakdown of a romance and the impact of isolation — in a press statement, Tusks said Gold was “inspired by contrasting experiences.”

From processing a breakup then falling in love to being in the city then being in nature, Gold saw Tusks “echo these contrasts in the production of the music, constantly [moving] between lo-fi and hi-fi production.”
In anticipation of Gold, which is set for release on April 12, Tusks swung by Happy Mag to sift through her favourite Australian songwriters and producers. Catch her full list below, and scroll down to listen to latest single Adore.
Angie McMahon
I’m in love with everything Angie McMahon does – there’s something about her voice and vocal delivery which is just so intimate and personal and emotional but then she still has so much power and clarity with what she’s singing.
‘If You Call’ was the track which initially got me into her but I really love the new album ‘Light, Dark, Light Again’
MF Tomlinson
I’m a bit biased because Micheal is a good friend of mine but his latest album ‘We Are Still Wild Horses’ just blew me away.
Everytime I listen to it or see it live it just gets better and better and i think even if i didn’t know him it would easily be in my top albums of last year – especially the last two tracks ‘End Of The Road’ and ‘We Are Still Wild Horses’
Hiatus Kaiyote
I think Hiatus Kaiyote are one of the most interesting bands out there currently – ‘Tawk Tomohawk’ is still probably my fave album of theirs
Godtet
I can’t remember how I came across Godtet guys but I love them – their production is super interesting- especially the album ‘II’
Sia
I have to include Sia because she’s just such a powerhouse but also I listened to Breathe Me about a thousand times when I was a teenager and it was probably hugely influential on my music.
