Here’s how to watch the US vice presidential debate in Australia today

Not over US politics yet? Here’s how to watch the US vice presidential debate between Kamala Harris and Mike Pence live in Australia.

The US vice presidential debate between Mike Pence and Joe Biden‘s right-hand woman Kamala Harris is set to take place today (Thursday, 12 pm AEDT) and is sure to be one of the most-watched in election history.

The debate comes with a heightened level of stress and significance, as questions over President Trump’s health and the spread of COVID-19 within the White House loom large.

Harris successfully requested the debate to take place with Pence separated by plexiglass barriers, after a series of positive coronavirus tests within the White House. Additionally, the US Center for Disease Control and Prevention confirmed that the debate was safe to take place, as Pence had not been in contact with any members who had tested positive to the virus.

Considering how poorly the first presidential debate between Donald Trump and Joe Biden, there is hope that some actual election issues will be discussed between Harris and Pence.

The vice presidential debate will also have added significance as it could act as an audition for the potential 46th and 48th Presidents of the United States.

With Trump and Biden both in their 70s, and the former’s health now in serious question, we could see Mike Pence in office sooner rather than later if Trump does indeed get elected.

Conversely, should Biden be elected, there is a strong possibility that the 78-year-old won’t run for a second four-year term. This would make Harris the prime candidate to lead the Democratic campaign in 2024 and become the first black woman to lead the United States.
