Following the film’s recent premiere, Matt Donnelly, an editor at Variety tweeted, “Big reveal from #TheEternals premiere — Harry Styles has joined the MCU as Eros, brother of Thanos.”

This surprise reveal has left some divided. Whilst Styles’ fans are positively elated, some Marvel fans are upset, complaining that it’s a major spoiler for Eternals, which is set for release on November 5.

Donnelly copped heat for the MAJOR spoiler, with fans feeling robbed of an exquisite surprise, despite the rumours having circulated for some time.

The Eternals, of which Styles’ Eros is a part, are an ancient and undying race in Marvel’s Cinematic Universe. According to Marvel lore, Eros is a fun-loving, carefree womaniser with the ability to manipulate the emotions of others. He contrasts greatly to his brother, Tharos, who’s known as a power hungry and villainous tyrant. In the comics, Eros, who picks up the alias Starfox, fights alongside The Avengers to help oppose Thanos.

Considering this, Styles‘ charms make him an appropriate and doubtlessly popular casting choice for the Marvel crew.

Variety editor Marc Malkin reported that the “audience squealed” upon Styles‘ appearance.

Despite signifying Styles‘ induction into the MCU, this is not his first acting role.

The Watermelon Sugar singer starred in 2017’s, Dunkirk and is set to appear in two upcoming films, My Policeman and Don’t Worry Darling. The latter, an American psychological thriller, is directed by Styles’ girlfriend Olivia Wilde.

The couple, who met on set, have reportedly been dating for a number of weeks.
