What is pegging and how is it actually done?

Pegging – the strap-on sex act sparking everyone’s curiosity. What is pegging and how can you achieve the most sensual pegging experience?

Today, we’re venturing into the fascinating world of butt stuff. If you’re a seasoned traveler in this area, welcome back. If you’re a new explorer in the world of booty kinks, how exciting! So happy to have you here. Now, let’s talk about pegging.

If you’ve been hearing that kinky buzzword a lot lately, you’re not alone! Over recent years, anal pegging has blossomed into a hugely popular, gender-norm-defying act, joining the ranks of other sexual relics involving the butt, such as anal fingering, rim jobs, and of course, good ol’ fashioned anal sex.

What is pegging?

What does it mean to peg someone anally? If pegging is uncharted territory for you, Women’sHealth describe this saucy little sex act in very simple terms: “Pegging is when a woman wears a strap-on dildo and penetrates her partner anally.”

And if you’re wondering, what is a strap on? Cosmopolitan break it down for us: “A strap-on is a two-piece sex toy that includes a dildo, which is a typically non-vibrating toy that is generally penis-shaped. The dildo is held in place by a harness, which attaches to the hips of the person wearing it. Strap-ons are used for penetrative sex, either vaginal or anal, which is also called pegging when a woman uses a strap-on with a man.”

How to peg someone

Contrary to some belief, pegging sex is not gender or sexuality-exclusive. Both men getting pegged and women pegging is totally normal, enjoyable and common. For example, biological, cisgender women with strapons can begin pegging a man by penetrating his anus. This can produce some really pleasurable sensations for the man getting pegged as it stimulates his P-spot (prostate).

Just as G-spot stimulation can help achieve female orgasms, P-spot stimulation can do the same for men and penis-havers. As described in Cosmopolitan, the prostate is a “kidney-bean-sized gland located inside the anus about two to three inches in on the front side of the body. It is about one inch in diameter but, during arousal, it swells and becomes firmer (making it easier to find).”

Do women like pegging a man with a strap-on? Many say a resounding YES! For example, Anna, 28, tells Cosmopolitan: “Pegging is great because it puts you in a role you’re not really used to being in as a woman. There are aspects of dominance, power, intimacy, and strength that I don’t think we get to experience in quite the same wordless way when it comes to vanilla sex.”

Pegging for beginners

Here are some of the best pegging tips we could find on how to peg and how to prep for pegging if you’re engaging in first time pegging. For starters, if the prospect of pain or discomfort has ever deterred you or your partner from exploring anal play, sex experts and experienced individuals in the realm of butt play recommend lube – lots of lube.

According to sex and relationship coach, Charlie Glickman from MAKE.SEX.EASY, if you’re using a silicone dildo for penetration, you must use a water-based lubricant along with it. However, if the dildo is not made of silicone, then a high-quality silicone-based lube would actually be better, and help ensure a smoother ride.

Of course, if you’re a first-timer, gentle pegging is best. Start slow. Communicate before, during and after penetration. Don’t place any pressure or expectations on yourself or your pegging partner. If pegging erotica or porn pegging is what got you curious in the first place, remember that porn sex is not always an accurate representation of real-life sex.

It may not be fireworks the first time around, but exploration, communication and discovering what you both enjoy are all fun parts of the journey: “Determining what you like when it comes to anal play is personal – and dildos aren’t exactly dextrous. So, if you and your partner are down to try pegging, it’s probably a good idea if they take their own, personal anal adventure first,” write Cosmopolitan.

Sex toys for pegging

To get started in the world of peg sex, you’ll need a harness, a dildo to strap on to it, and of course, as discussed above, lots of silicone or water-based lubricant. For beginners, Claire Cavanah, co-founder of sex toy company Babeland recommends starting small, and then easing into a larger size dildo. She also advises couples that “shopping for the dildo and harness together can be a great way to build up the experience and feel connected.”

If you’re looking for a great place to start browsing, our friends over at Lovehoney have a wonderful range of dildo and harness kits on their website. Check out an example below.

Best sex positions for pegging

If you’re new to all this hot pegging action, Cosmopolitan recommend The First Timer as a good starting position. As illustrated below, “have your partner get into doggie with their face and arms down on the bed.”

They continue: “If you’re going in anally, go incredibly slowly, letting them guide how deeply you go. (It can take a super long time for your partner to relax. This is COMPLETELY normal. Be patient!) Just keep adding lube and you’re good.”

In addition, they also recommend giving The Starter Gun a go: “A seated position is another good beginner position because your partner can control how much is going on, backdoor-wise,”  write Cosmopolitan.

“It’s also one of the more romantic pegging positions because it’s super conducive to gazing into each other’s eyes and sharing deep kisses,” they add.
