The team at the Australian Music Prize have done the impossible and narrowed down the whopping longlist of 61 eligible albums to a staggeringly short shortlist of 9.
Last year was a cracking one for both debut albums and delicious come back records, so picking a winner will be a task suited only for the fine judges that make up the AMP team.
This year’s Australian Music Prize recipient will be rolling in their well deserved $30,000, hopefully used to continue churning out the music we all love.
And without further ado, here are the 9 albums who made the shortlist. Drum roll please…
A.B. Original – Reclaim Australia
The Avalanches – Wildflower
Big Scary – Animal
Camp Cope – Camp Cope
D.D Dumbo – Utopia Defeated
King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard – Nonagon Infinity
Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds – Skeleton Tree
Olympia – Self Talk
The Peep Tempel – Joy
We couldn’t be happier with the selection.
The winner of the Australian Music Prize will be announced on March 12, and will join Courtney Barnett, The Jezabels and Hermitude in the winning hall of fame.
